A DISC Training Workshop for Your Group

Whether your group is an executive team, a body of middle managers or supervisors, a collection of employees, or your entire organization, we can customize a highly effective DISC training workshop to meet your needs.

Personality training workshop

An Online DISC Assessment for Each Participant Prior to the Workshop

It's easy to be a spectator in some workshops, but our programs keep participants fully engaged from start to finish. The process begins one week prior to the workshop, when each participant logs in to our DISC survey website to take an online behavioral style survey. The survey consists of 24 two-part questions that only take 10-15 minutes for completion. Immediately after the survey, the participant receives her/his 20-page DISC assessment in PDF format. The assessments are highly personalized, and they set the stage for personal involvement in the training process.

DISC Assessments: Amazing Accuracy, Profound Personal Insights

DISC Assessments:
Effective Tools for Personal Growth

DISC assessments are an integral component of our workshops. If you are interested in assessments, but are not ready for a workshop, contact us for pricing information. We can provide you with assessments online, and you can use any major credit card for payment.

DISC

Many of our clients use our DISC assessments as hiring and management tools. We can provide you with assessments on an ongoing basis for new hires as well as for all your employees, supervisors, managers and executives.

Most people are amazed as they begin reading their DISC assessments. "How do they know all this about me?" The assessment begins with a 2-3 page narrative describing the individual's behavior and personality traits, primarily in the workplace. Then the sections that follow outline the individual's likes & dislikes, communication habits, communication & behavioral strengths & weaknesses, as well as insights about the differences in their self-perception and how others tend to see them.

While no personality assessment is 100% accurate, the participants in our workshops consistently tell us that they are at least 80-90% accurate. Often, when participants show their assessments to spouses, significant others, family members, friends and co-workers, they are told that the assessment is not just somewhat accurate, but totally accurate.

You will find that during the week prior to the DISC training workshop, co-workers will immediately begin sharing the insights from their assessments, which builds enthusiasm and anticipation for the workshop.

During the workshop, participation is dramatically increased as a result of the assessments. We continually receive comments that the learning experience has a profound effect on the lives of participants - not just at work, but in their personal lives. Many participants request assessments for their family members so they can extend the experience to their loved ones.

Training workshop interaction

Group Size and Workshop Length

We have conducted DISC training workshops with as many as 1500 participants and with as few as one participant (coaching workshops). The smaller the group, the more personalized attention each participant will receive. Participants often have specific questions about their DISC profiles, and a smaller group size makes it easier for Roger to field all questions. If you have a large group, you may want to consider multiple workshops in order to keep the group size more intimate. We have found that groups of 30 and under are optimal for personal attention and interaction. However, our large group workshops may be the best solution if cost is an issue, since the training fee is the same regardless of group size. Regardless of group size, everyone is engaged in interaction through open-forum discussions, group exercises and activities.

Our DISC training workshops range in length from a half day to five full days. Our most popular format is a full-day workshop. A full day allows Roger to include siginficant focus on a specific area of interest, such as interpersonal communication, conflict management or leadership skills. A half-day workshop is plenty of time to cover behavioral styles and basic communication and teamwork, but does not allow in-depth training beyond the basics. A multiple-day workshop allows greater depth in various areas of focus, and provides the time necessary for longer group activities and interaction.

DISC Training and Emotional Intelligence

A DISC training workshop won't increase the IQs of your employees and managers, but it can be the catalyst for improving their Emotional Intelligence (EIQ).

Emotional Intelligence, as defined by Daniel Goleman, is a measure of an individual's competency in four key areas:

  1. Self-Awareness: The ability to recognize your emotions and their effect on your thoughts, decisions and actions.
  2. Self-Management: The ability to control your emotions and reactions, and to exercise leadership - particularly during times of stress, duress and conflict.
  3. Social Awareness: The ability to sense, understand and empathize with the emotions of others, and to effectively function within social structures.
  4. Relationship Management: The ability to develop healthy relationships, influence others and effectively manage conflict.

Our DISC training workshops focus on developing these competencies through assessment, training, experiential learning activities and exercises aimed at self-discovery. Improvements in emotional intelligence are the result of new insights and ongoing self-development. The customized workbooks we provide with our workshops include tools designed to help each participant with her/his ongoing personal growth. As your employees and managers improve their emotional intelligence, the result is an overall improvement of the collective EIQ of your group.

Workshop Format

Your DISC training workshop can be integrated into a conference, retreat, annual meeting, company function... or it can be a standalone training event. We can structure the format to meet your objectives, including any or all of the following ingredients:

  • Interactive Training:
Roger Reece's training style is fast-paced, practical and highly interactive. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and share personal experiences. Roger is an excellent facilitator, drawing from the skills and insights of the members of the group while avoiding getting bogged down or sidetracked by extraneous issues.
  • Small-Group Discussions:
Generally in modules of 10-15 minutes in length, participants are divided into small groups and are given a specific topic to discuss with key objectives. These modules allow everyone to share experiences and ideas related to the current topic based on specific guidelines. After the exercise, Roger facilitates a discussion during which groups share their conclusions and insights.
  • Small-Group Discovery Exercises:
These exercises often include simulations, and are designed to help each group to discover principles, untested assumptions, attitudes and behavioral insights. Participants are immersed in challenging and ambiguous situations that often envoke strong emotional responses. During the debrief theat follows the exercise, Roger draws deep insights out of the participants and relates these insights to everyday work situations.
  • Problem-Solving Exercises:
Groups are given a complex problem to solve requiring creative thinking, analytical skills and teamwork. Each exercise is focused on a key learning point.
  • One-On-One Dyads:
Each participant is paired with a partner, and together they engage in dialog focused on key issues. Dyads often involve exploration of personal experiences relating to the training topic.
  • Role-Play:
Generally role-play exercises are conducted in groups of three: two role-players and an observer. Roger sets the stage by describing the role-play situation and the events leading up to the dialog. Each role-player is then given a briefing sheet describing additional details from the role-player's point of view. Information in the briefing sheets is very subjective, describing attitudes, emotions and polarized positions. The observer receives a copy of each role-player's briefing sheet. Role-players engage in dialog in order to realistically resolve the conflict or respond to the situation. Afterwards, the observer shares her/his insights and observations. Then Roger facilitates an open discussion, focused on learning from the results of the role-plays. Some role-play sessions are conducted with volunteers who do their role-play in front of the room while the entire group observes.
  • Experiential Learning Activities:
These activities involve small groups and are of longer duration than the exercises described above (generally 45-90 minutes). The activities are fun and challenging, and are followed by a debrief and discussion, resulting in a deep and memorable learning experience.
  • Team Activities:
These activities (generally 45-90 minutes in duration) are lively and energetic, involving heated competition between groups. Often structured like games, they focus on teamwork, creativity and performance under pressure. The debrief & discussion following the activity brings the focus to key learning points.
  • Motivational Humor & Entertainment:
Roger Reece and his alter-ego, Buford P. Fuddwhacker, are a motivational-speaker team. If you want to add over-the-top humor with hilarious audience participation, include a couple of 20-minute high-energy Fuddwhacker segments to your workshop. Buford is the ultimate parody on motivational speakers with down-home country humor and loads of laughter. We offer in-depth training in each of the topics listed above. If you are interested in an ongoing training program, we can offer you a series of workshops all building on the same foundation. Each workshop will deepen the participants' understanding of how to apply the principles of DISC to different contexts involving interaction with people of different styles. The value of the training can be further expanded through one-on-one coaching with key members of your team.

If Your Team Has Already Taken DISC Assessments

DISC assessments are widely used in organizations today. If your team members have already taken DISC assessments, we can build on their existing knowledge base. We can customize a training workshop on any of the topics listed in the workshop content section above that will expand their previous training with new applications. For newly-hired team members, you can use your existing source for DISC assessments, or we can be your source for the additional assessments you need.

A Sample DISC Assessment

All DISC assessments are not alike. Our assessments are thorough, accurate and highly-rated. Contact us for a sample assessment to make your own evaluation.

Training Exercise

Workshops That Result in Behavioral Change

The purpose of our DISC training workshops is to serve as an effective catalyst for behavioral change. Roger Reece's training style, the exercises and activities we use, and the assessments themselves are all designed to get your people to begin practicing the skills of self-observation and self-management. We believe that training that results only in the assimilation of new information has little or no value. Our workshops result in lasting behavioral change, and ultimately, increased productivity and teamwork.

The Value of People-Skills Training

Your organization may do an excellent job of providing job and technical skills training for your employees, supervisors and managers. But if you aren't providing an equal amount of people-skills training, your training mix is needs to be revamped. People-skills are at the heart of productivity and teamwork. Many of the interpersonal problems that diminish teamwork can be avoided or solved through an effective people-skills training program. Our DISC training workshops are the perfect solution. Contact us today to find out how we can make a difference in your organization.
